We play organic gypsy folk hop and psychedelic bounce music with the added element of Woo. We use exclusively acoustic instruments, with guitar, fiddle, flute, clarinet, upright harmonium, cajon and a host of percussion, including a shamanic frame drum
We have played a large variety of venues and events including: nightclubs, art centres, outdoor parties, village halls, festivals and even a 5th birthday party and have always succeeded in making people jump up and down with glee and abandon.
Our musical mission is to take acoustic folk music as far as possible into the realms of punk, dance music and psychedelia without losing it's organic feel and crowd catching melody................. and most importantly to get people to wig out!
We formed the band after years as friends and neighbours in rural South East Scotland. Many, many hours of jamming round the kitchen table and singing round campfires gave birth to a mutual desire to get serious and after a long winter of creativity and practice Portnawak & The Woo emerged into the stage lights, looking cute and scruffy but with a steely glint in the eyes.
We are available to play stages of all sizes and able to entertain crowds of all ages and temperaments. As we are an acoustic band we are also capable of, and experienced in, playing unplugged and al fresco (weather permitting!)
